- The Area
Lake House Cottages and B&B are ½ a mile from the village of Bradworthy which is situated in peaceful, rural north-west Devon.
It lies within the area known as Tarka Country and close to both the North Devon Biosphere Reserve (Britain’s first) and the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Bude in Cornwall is 10 miles to the west, Bideford in Devon 13 miles to the east and the old fishing village of Clovelly is 7 miles to the north.
Bradworthy itself is an ancient Saxon settlement that boasts the largest village square in the West Country.
It supports a strong local village community plus a wide scattering of farms and hamlets.
Facilities include a friendly village inn which serves good food, beers and wines, a church, post office, two general stores, a butchers, vets and doctors.
The village is only 3 miles from the Cornish border, in an area of meadowland and moorland, with high hedges and quiet lanes full of wild flowers.
The people are friendly and the pace of life is very slow. Bradworthy Moor, a local nature reserve of ancient culm grassland, is less than 10 minutes walk away.
There is so much to see and do in the area! A short drive away are the Sandy Beaches at Bude, Sandy Mouth or Northcott Mouth.
The South West Coast Path hugs the coast line all the way around this corner of Devon and provides spectacular and exhilarating walking.
The dramatic landscapes of the three West Country moors (Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor) are all within a 40 minute drive.
There are many gardens to visit in the area, including the RHS' Rosemoor Gardens and the award winning Docton Mill.
The nationally important Braunton Burrows nature reserve (SSSI) is within reach with its miles of sand dunes, 500 different flower species, 33 butterfly species and one of the most remote beaches you can imagine! The Taw & Torridge Estuary is also an SSSI with bird populations of national importance.
And you can cycle along it on the Tarka Trail, an 80 mile long off-road cycle track largely following the course of the River Torridge made famous in “Ring of Bright Water”, the book about Tarka the otter.

- Location
Our cottages lie in a secluded position ½ a mile from the village of Bradworthy in rural north Devon, 3 miles from the North Cornwall border.
The village square, the largest in the West Country, has a thatched pub, church and several shops.
The nearest beach is 10 miles away near Bude in Cornwall, and Clovelly on the north coast of Devon is 7 miles away.
The Cottages, which are between 150 and 350 years old, are surrounded by undulating meadows and Devon hedgerows full of flowers.
Each cottage has its own unique character, is very well furnished and fully equipped and has access to the large, south facing, flower-filled gardens and tennis court. - Gallery
