The nearby coast has spectacular high cliffs with rocky coves and sandy beaches. Wildlife is plentiful with good bird watching, unusual butterflies, and rare plants. Exmoor, Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are all less than 30 miles away.
Nearby places to visit include Clovelly, Tintagel and Bude (with its wonderful sandy beaches), historic market towns such as Launceston, and several National Trust properties. There are boat trips to the nature reserve of Lundy Island. For garden lovers there is RHS Rosemoor and the lost gardens of Heligan are within reach. For children, as well as the natural attractions, there are several quality adventure parks such as the Milky Way, the Big Sheep and Killarney Springs.
The coast path is close by, and the Tarka Trail cyclepath runs along the banks of the river Torridge (cycles can be hired at several locations along the trail). Surfing, sailing, wind-surfing, horse-riding, fishing, shooting at Waterland Days and golf facilities are all available nearby.
